Queen Camilla’s poignant remarks about domestic violence are highlighted by the Palace on the final day of the United Nations campaign, 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence.

While sharing a clip from the 2024 ITV documentary Behind Closed Doors, the royal family’s official Instagram page wrote, “Too many lives are lost to domestic abuse each year. Behind every statistic is a person who deserved safety, and families left behind seeking justice and change.”

“Victims start blaming themselves. ‘It must be my fault,’” the Queen is heard saying in the accompanying footage. “They shouldn’t feel any shame. It’s not their fault, and I think when you convince them that it’s not their fault then they start becoming themselves again.”

The royal family’s Instagram caption continued, “Today marks the final day of 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence. As this important period closes, we renew our commitment to ending domestic abuse and supporting survivors.”

Whereas the clip featuring Camilla was taken from a documentary project, released on November 11, 2024, outlining the stigma around domestic and sexual violence and the Queen Consort’s work towards raising awareness for the cause.

Meanwhile, UN’s 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence had commenced on November 25 and concluded on December 10.
