William and Kate's choice of Eton for George explained
George's boarding school choice reflects family's careful planning
Prince William and Princess Catherine have faced scrutiny over their decision to send their eldest son, Prince George, to Eton College, the famous all-boys boarding school near Windsor. The couple have given careful thought to their son's future schooling, according to a royal expert.
Royal Expert Jennie Bond told the Mirror that the decision made sense given the family's circumstances. "I'm not surprised that Eton has been chosen: there are all sorts of valid reasons for George to go there. It's every parent's right to choose what they believe is best for their child," she said.
Eton's proximity to family home cited as key factor
Bond explained that the school's location played a major role in the decision. "William and Catherine fervently believe that Eton, in the shadow of Windsor Castle and so close to their family home at Forest Lodge, is where their son will feel safe and secure," she said.
She added that the couple had approached the decision thoroughly. "We all want the best for our kids, and they've given a lot of thought to where George should go. They have done a huge amount of research, visited several schools and undoubtedly they have included George in all their discussions. And their considered choice is Eton. Fair enough," Bond said.
A school William knows well
Bond noted that Eton holds personal significance for William, who attended the school himself during a turbulent period in his own childhood. "It's not as if they won't see George: the boys can go home every two or three weeks and their parents can take them out on Sunday afternoons. They'll also be encouraged to go along for sports, music or drama events and take part in social activities," she said.
