Johnny Depp has recently made a return to Japan for the first time in eight years to mark a special occasion.

On Sunday, December 7, the 62-year-old actor was warmly welcomed by his devoted fans at Tokyo Comic-Con.

The ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ encountered more than 3,000 people over two days at Tokyo’s Makuhari Messe Convention Center.

Now, an insider has shared with PEOPLE about how Depp felt after receiving such a delightful welcome.

"Johnny is feeling overwhelmingly touched by the fan receptions he's received. He sees and recognizes all those who have stood by and supported him through these last several years,” the source revealed.

They continued, “It was his first trip back to Japan in eight years, and while much has changed since then, their love for Johnny remains steadfast. Tokyo has always held a special place in Johnny's heart. He's very much enjoying his stay and can't wait to return."

During the Tokyo Comic-Con panel, organisers surprised Depp with eye-catching artwork.
