Jason Bateman reflects on life-changing lesson from Ron Howard
The 'Zootopia 2' star recalls his worst days and how he overcame his life at its lowest point
Jason Bateman opened up about an important lesson he learned from Ron Howard during a low point in his career.
In a clip from the upcoming season of Netflix’s My Next Guest Needs No Introduction with David Letterman, the Zootopia 2 star recalled watching Howard being interviewed at a time when his own career “was not going well.”
What struck him, Bateman said, was Howard’s warmth and transparency despite his great success.
“He’s famously friendly and nice and the most successful guy in the world,” Bateman said, explaining that the moment helped him realize that success allows authenticity.
He added that he promised himself that if he ever regained relevance, he would allow himself to be openly kind without fear of being seen as desperate.
The host Letterman praised the story as a rare life changing moment, while Bateman noted that hitting career lows shaped his career.
“That experience helps me be who I am today,” he said.
