Angelina Jolie reveals meaning behind showing her scars
The 'Mr. and Mrs. Smith' actress currently stars in Couture
Angelina Jolie opened up about her decision to show her mastectomy scars for the first time.
In a new interview with TIME France, the Original Sin actress explained that the choice was rooted in solidarity and awareness.
“I share these scars with many women I love,” Jolie said. “And I'm always moved when I see other women share theirs.”
The Mr. and Mrs. Smith actress underwent the surgery in 2013 after learning she carries the BRCA1 gene mutation, which significantly increased her risk of developing breast cancer.
Her mother, actress Marcheline Bertrand, died in 2007 at age 56 following a long battle with cancer.
“I wanted to join them,” Jolie added, noting that TIME France would also be sharing information about breast health, prevention, and cancer awareness.
