Tom Cruise transforms into ‘Digger’ for his latest return to movies

Tom Cruise is teasing a major transformation in the newly released teaser for Digger, a film by Alejandro González Iñárritu.

The film also stars Jesse Plemons, Sandra Hüller, Emma D’Arcy, Riz Ahmed, John Goodman, and more.

While Iñárritu, Nicolas Giacobone, Alexander Dinelaris, and Sabina Berman have co-written its screenplay — with Giacobone and Dinelaris joining the Mexican filmmaker once again after their collaboration on the Oscar-winning film Birdman.

Cruise unveiled his upcoming release’s teaser trailer on X (formerly called Twitter), with the caption, “Let’s f***ing go!”

Digger is described as “a comedy of catastrophic proportions” in the newly released footage, which features the Mission: Impossible star silhouetted in darkness, with only an unrecognisable profile showing off dancing antics with a shovel.

The film’s tagline was echoed by its director and writer at this year’s Cannes Film Festival, where he had said in an interview with Deadline, “This is a wild comedy of catastrophic proportions. It’s insane. He makes me laugh every day. The range that I discovered working with Tom is unprecedented for me as a director. I was so f****** impressed and happy.”

Tom Cruise will appear in and as Digger, Alejandro G. Iñárritu’s first film since Bardo: False Chronicle of a Handful of Truths (2022), out in cinemas on October 2, 2026.
