Sabrina Carpenter opens up about mashup moment with Taylor Swift
Sabrina Carpenter shares backstage Eras Tour rehearsal surprise in Taylor Swift’s docuseries
Sabrina Carpenter recently shared a humourous realisation while preparing to take the stage with Taylor Swift during The Eras Tour stop in New Orleans.
In episode four of Swift’s Disney+ docuseries The End of an Era, the two artists are shown rehearsing a mash up of Espresso, Is It Over Now? and Please Please Please ahead of their October 2024 performance at the Caesars Superdome.
While backstage, Carpenter admitted it took her a while to fully grasp why Swift chose to blend the songs together.
The 26-year-old singer, “Okay, I felt like a real big idiot, ‘cause the first time you sent me the first version, which was so genius, it didn’t process that the ‘takeout coffee’ line really fits with ‘Espresso’ until I literally was in the car on the way here."
Carpenter added, “I was like, ‘She’s so smart.’ But yeah, that was a big blonde moment for me. It took me a day.”
To which, the Cruel Summer songstress laughed off the comment, replying, “No, but what are the chances it has the same rhythm and is in the same key?”
Elsewhere in the episode, Swift praised Carpenter’s talent and momentum. “Sabrina is just like a shooting star,” the Grammy winner said. “She’s so smart, she knows exactly how to entertain people in the way that they want, in the moment that she’s in.”
“She’s just like battling herself for No. 1 on the charts all summer,” the Blank Space singer added.
For the unversed, episodes three and four of The End of an Era premiered December 19, with the final two arriving December 23, 2025.
