How ‘Stranger Things’ finale brought classic hits back to life
‘Stranger Things’ final episode arrived on New Year's Eve on Netflix
The fifth and final season of Stranger Things concluded on New Year's Eve with the most satisfying ending.
The finale of sci-fi literally made the internet go wild over the ending, fighting scenes, confessions, and most importantly its retro soundtrack that took many to a musical time capsule.
By adding iconic '80s tunes, Stranger Things has breathed new life into old favourites just like Running Up That Hill, sending them soaring on streaming platforms.
Notably, the songs of Prince, the late pop icon, saw a surprisingly unexpected surge on streaming platform Spotify after being included in the final episode.
According to Variety, the late legendary singer’s two songs, Purple Rain and When Doves Cry, saw an insane increase on the musical streaming platform.
Purple Rain has seen a 243 percent increase in Spotify global streams and a 577 percent surge in global streams and When Doves Cry witnessed a 200 percent boost in global streams, as well as a 128 percent increase in global streams.
Overall streams of Prince's catalog, as a result, saw a 190 percent jump, with followers of the artist going up by 88 percent.
When Doves Cry played as the ensemble made their escape from the Abyss and the Upside Down.
Meanwhile, Purple Rain, is the background song when the Upside Down falls apart.
If we say the increase in numbers is nostalgic, consider the surge received by Kate Bush's Running Up That Hill after it was featured in Stranger Things' fourth season.
