Elon Musk offers free Starlink internet in Venezuela for limited period
Elon Musk announces that Starlink will provide free satellite internet services in Venezuela
Elon Musk has announced that Starlink will provide free satellite internet services in Venezuela for one month, describing the move as a gesture of support for the country’s people.
Musk shared the update on X (formerly Twitter) while reposting Starlink’s official notice confirming the temporary free access.
“In support of the people of Venezuela,” he wrote, without offering further details about how users can activate the service.
The offer of free Starlink service is expected to provide temporary internet relief in a country where connectivity has long been unreliable and costly.
The announcement follows recent political developments involving Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, whose capture was reported after a US military operation authorised by Donald Trump.
The tech billionaire publicly welcomed the news, calling it a major moment for the crisis-hit nation.
For those unversed, Musk has been a vocal critic of Maduro for years, frequently accusing his government of economic mismanagement and authoritarian rule.
He has repeatedly argued that Venezuela’s long-running crisis has prevented the country from benefiting from its vast natural resources.
During Venezuela’s 2024 election period, Musk openly supported opposition leader María Corina Machado, who later went on to win the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize.
At the time, Musk said meaningful economic reform was the key to unlocking Venezuela’s potential.
