Jimmy Kimmel roasts Trump during winning speech at 2026 Critics Choice Awards
Jimmy Kimmel accepted the Critics Choice Award for his late night talk show
Jimmy Kimmel’s late night show, Jimmy Kimmel Live!, bagged the best talk show honour at the Critics Choice Awards on January 4.
While accepting the award, Kimmel took aim at Donald Trump, who notoriously celebrated the brief suspension of his show last year.
He began by thanking the crew who stuck by the late night show amid its period of trouble: “Thanks to all the writers and actors and producers and union members, many of you who are in this room, who supported us, who really stepped forward us and reminded us that we do not take free speech for granted in this city or in this country. Your actions were important, and we appreciate them.”
“Most of all I wanna thank our president, Donald Jennifer Trump. Without whom, we’d be going home empty-handed tonight,” he later joked. “So thank you, Mr. President, for all the many ridiculous things you do each and every day. It’s been a banner couple of weeks, and we can’t wait to get back on the air tomorrow night to talk about them.”
Dragging his immortal feud with the head-of-state, Kimmel also mentioned in his speech that he would have preferred to win the FIFA Peace Prize instead, which Trump had been controversially handed during the FIFA World Cup draw in December 2025.
Jimmy Kimmel’s show had gone off-air back in September 2025 after the talk show host had implied that Charlie Kirk’s killer belonged to the Trump-led MAGA movement. He won the Critics Choice Award by defeating his peers, many of whom are also Donald Trump’s targets, including Stephen Colbert and Seth Meyers.
