Simu Liu endorses Melissa Barrera as next Wonder Woman: ‘She really pushes herself’

Simu Liu thinks that his new co-star, Melissa Barrera, would make the perfect candidate to take over the role of Wonder Woman in the DCU.

While promoting The Copenhagen Test, his new spy series for Peacock which also stars Barrera, the Marvel alum told JoBlo, “She really pushes herself. I don’t know who might be listening to this interview, James Gunn or anybody else out there. But I think she really pushes herself.”

Further explaining what made him think that the former Scream actress could play the DC superheroine, he added, “There were a couple of moments during stunt training where I was like, ‘That’s Wonder Woman-esque.’ I’m just throwing it out there.”

Wonder Woman has been played by Gal Gadot in multiple DC films so far, however, James Gunn has stated that recasting is underway for previous superhero players since his takeover of the DC Studios.

Meanwhile, Liu continued to sing Barrera’s praises following his endorsement of her as the fictional Amazonian fighter.

“After the whole season and after all the training that she had been through, Melissa was looking really sharp as a fighter, and so, she came to set and she was just ready to come to blows. And it was really fun just to get to play that with her, and I’m really proud of what we did too,” he said.

Adding that he was “really proud of her”, he also stated that she did “most, if not all of her own stunts, and she’s just the best.”

The Copenhagen Test, starring Simu Liu and Melissa Barrera, was released via Peacock on December 27, 2025.
