Chinese artificial intelligence (AI) startup DeepSeek is reportedly gearing up to introduce its next-generation V4 AI model by mid-February, marking a major step in its rapid rise within the global AI race.

According to a report from The Information, internal testing conducted by DeepSeek employees has suggested the upcoming V4 model could outperform competing systems from rivals such as Anthropic and OpenAI, particularly in coding-related tasks.

The model is said to show strong gains in understanding and executing complex programming instructions.

One of V4’s standout improvements is its ability to handle extremely long and detailed coding prompts.

This capability could give developers an edge when working on large-scale or technically demanding software projects that require sustained context.

DeepSeek has quickly become a central figure in China’s efforts to build a homegrown AI ecosystem while reducing reliance on foreign technologies.

The company garnered significant global traction after several Silicon Valley executives praised its earlier DeepSeek-V3 and DeepSeek-R1 models for their performance and efficiency.

Based in Hangzhou, the startup first gained widespread recognition in early 2025 by releasing high-performance, cost-effective, and open-source AI models.

Some industry watchers even described its sudden rise as an “AI Sputnik moment,” triggering sharp reactions across global tech and financial markets.

However, DeepSeek has also faced increasing scrutiny. Regulators in countries including Australia, the Czech Republic, France, and Germany have raised concerns over data security and privacy issues.
