Ryan Reynolds brings Johnny Depp into 'Blake Lively-Justin Baldoni' controversy
Johnny Depp pulled in legal dispute between Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni
Johnny Depp is the latest star to be pulled into the controversy involving the legal dispute between Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni.
Papers revealed by TMZ disclosed Depp’s mention in a text conversation from August 2024 between Lively’s partner, Ryan Reynolds, and his agent Warren Zavala, as they talked about the ongoing situation.
“It’s this guy’s incredible ego,” Zavala allegedly wrote of Baldoni. “It feels like he’s laying a trap if her truth surfaces, while promoting a narrative digitally.”
“Yeah. But honestly, someone is just gonna tell a journalist the real deal and it’s gonna blow up in his face,” the “Free Guy” star replied.
“You would think so,” Zavala replied, pointing out that “sometimes the truth gets distorted.”
“That’s why I’m worried he’s setting a hidden trap,” the agent added. “I hope this trickster is revealed. I just want to safeguard our interests. The film's success is crucial. Let’s see if the rumors die down.”
Alongside a link to news about the “It Ends With Us” stars arguing over the movie’s final version, Zavala said, “This is just spin. I believe we should let it play out.”
Reynolds replied, “How’d that turn out for Depp??” bringing up the “Pirates of the Caribbean” actor’s well-known defamation lawsuit with Amber Heard.
Zavala mentioned the case “Ended up ruining both of them ultimately” before reportedly criticizing Baldoni as a “self-important fraud with a god complex” and Reynolds terming the director a “human oversight error.”
Depp and Heard’s case — where the “Edward Scissorhands” actor accused his ex-wife of defamation — concluded in 2022, awarding Depp $10.35 million in punitive damages, and Heard receiving $2 million in her claim.
The “Aquaman” actress has since moved to Madrid, Spain, where she’s bringing up her three kids, while Depp continues to forge ahead, attending the Cannes and San Sebastian film festivals in recent years.
