Leonardo DiCaprio has cleverly dodged the question of who he was speaking to during his viral moment at the 2026 Golden Globes.

The Titanic star, who recently earned his eighth Oscar nomination for One Battle After Another, was caught on camera laughing animatedly while chatting with someone just out of frame.

The clip, shared by the Golden Globes’ official TikTok account, quickly spread online and sparked speculation.

Addressing the moment in an interview with Deadline following the Oscar nominations announcement on January 22, DiCaprio said he was talking to “a friend” but stopped short of naming them.

“It was directed to a friend, but who knows if this other person even wants me to mention their name?” he said. “As the lead character says in A Bronx Tale, I’m not a rat.”

Speculation intensified after DiCaprio’s One Battle After Another co-star Teyana Taylor initially suggested the actor may have been speaking with her.

However, she later clarified that he had been engaged in more than one conversation that evening.

Speaking on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Taylor joked that DiCaprio had been discussing her daughters’ love for the Netflix film KPop Demon Hunters throughout the night, adding that she later realized the viral clip captured him talking to someone else.

During the ceremony, DiCaprio was also seen pointing toward the unidentified person and mouthing remarks before breaking into laughter, though the individual did not appear in the widely shared footage.

One Battle After Another went on to secure multiple awards and nominations this season, including Best Picture and acting nods for several cast members.
