Miley Cyrus subtly reacts to Lady Gaga's Grammys win
Former 'Hannah Montana' star stayed in her seat during Gaga's triumph
Miley Cyrus gave Lady Gaga the cold shoulder after Gaga secured the top prize for best vocal album at the recent 2026 Grammys.
The "Flowers" singer, aged 31, was noticeably still and did not applaud when Gaga, 39, took the stage to receive her accolade for "Mayhem."
The former "Hannah Montana" star, dressed in a black leather jacket and matching trousers, stayed in her seat during Gaga's triumph, unlike other nominees such as Sabrina Carpenter.
Social media users quickly spotted the snub, with one individual commenting on X (formerly Twitter), “Miley shading Andrew Watt, not Gaga; I’m thoroughly entertained by it.”
In contrast, another expressed, “Miley’s reaction to Lady Gaga’s win? What’s happening?”, while another noticed, “I need to understand why Miley didn’t stand for Gaga…”
“THE SHADE OF MILEY NOT STANDING UP FOR GAGA, WHY IS THIS & IS WATT THE REASON,” another person wrote.
However, some defended Cyrus, pointing out that her conflict is with Gaga’s producer, Andrew Watt, who worked with her on “Plastic Hearts” back in 2020.
“Miley was never going to stand while Watt was present; it wasn’t about Gaga,” a netizen commented, highlighting the ongoing tension. “Please understand the history before critiquing her.”
The exact reasons behind the apparent discord between Cyrus and Watt are not clear, but fans speculate it may stem from reports of a brief romantic involvement during the "Plastic Hearts" project.
“I’ve admired Miley [Cyrus] for ages, and I closely followed her work because I was a huge fan,” he shared with “Entertainment Weekly” back then.
“When she approached me about embracing a more rock-oriented sound, it was a dream come true.”
Watt added that Cyrus is “an artist who unfailingly knows her direction.”
“With Miley, you’re along for her artistic journey,” he continued. “And she’s deeply connected to her lyrics.
The music of ‘Plastic Hearts’ was among the first few creations we made together, and it was actually the second song we wrote for the album.”
