The inventor of the popular AI agent Clawdbot explains that stepping back became necessary after becoming overly immersed in vibe coding.

Peter Steinberger, the mastermind behind Clawdbot — later renamed as Moltbot and now referred to as OpenClaw — shared in a “Behind the Craft” podcast episode aired on Sunday that vibe coding led him down a "rabbit hole."

"While out with friends, I found myself engaged in vibe coding on my phone instead of actively participating in the dinner conversations," he stated.

"I concluded, alright, I need to halt this more for my mental well-being than for anything else," he commented.

Clawdbot took the tech community by storm last month, captivating high-profile figures — from Y Combinator CEO Garry Tan to several partners at Andreessen Horowitz.

This personal AI agent is designed to operate continuously while integrating with a variety of consumer apps like WhatsApp and Telegram.

Users can request the AI to manage their schedules, oversee vibe-coding sessions, and even generate AI employees.

Rave reviews and memes about the AI agent have flooded the internet. In fact, some tech enthusiasts have even gone as far as purchasing Mac Minis expressly to operate the AI, according to last week's report by Business Insider’s Henry Chandonnet.

Steinberger noted that developers might fall into the trap of becoming enchanted with vibe coding, where crafting increasingly potent AI tools creates the “illusion of increased productivity” without actual advancement.

Although developing new tools can be fulfilling and enjoyable, it can quietly evolve into an obsession, he noted.
