Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg honor Catherine O’Hara at DGA Awards
O’Hara passed away last week in Los Angeles at 71 following a brief illness
“Honestly, there's no one we wish we could personally thank more right now than Catherine O’Hara,” stated The Studio creator-director-star-writer Seth Rogen during his acceptance speech on Saturday for Best Comedy Series Director at the DGA Awards.
Rogen and his creative partner Evan Goldberg received recognition tonight for directing the episode “The Magic Hour.”
“We grew up in Canada, and she truly has been our idol since we were kids,” said Studio co-creator/director/writer Goldberg.
“Yeah. I mean, Home Alone, honestly, is like the movie that inspired me to pursue filmmaking in many ways,” added Rogen. “In that film, she's always yelling ‘Kevin! Kevin!’ and on set, we’d be yelling ‘Evan! Evan!’ Every time she did, it was like, Home Alone.”
Rogen continued, “And the most amazing thing about her is she showed that you can be a total genius and still the kindest person you’ll ever meet. It was truly an honor to direct her daily, and we put in a lot of effort to make the show worthy of her time and presence. So, mainly, we want to thank the DGA for this, but mostly we wish to thank Catherine O’Hara for being such a remarkable person and gracing us with your presence.”
O’Hara passed away last week in Los Angeles at 71 following a brief illness. In The Studio, she portrayed a studio executive who becomes a producer after being fired; the character is loosely inspired by former Sony Pictures Motion Picture Group chairwoman Amy Pascal.
O’Hara was nominated for Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series at the Emmys last September for her role in the Apple TV/Lionsgate series.
