Beta Film has secured international distribution rights to the Quebec crime drama Northern Traces, one of the most-watched French-language series on Canadian streamer illico+ over the past five years.

The six-part noir thriller will be showcased as part of Beta Film’s lineup at next week’s London TV Screenings.

Produced by Quebec-based Pixcom, the company behind Audrey’s Back and The Wall, the series centres on seasoned Montreal investigator Sergeant Guillaume Pelletier, portrayed by Danny Gilmore.

Set in a snowbound rural town, the story follows Pelletier as his peaceful getaway is disrupted by the murder of a friend’s ex-wife.

Teaming up with meticulous local officer Évelyne, he uncovers a web of secrets in a tense race against time.

Pixcom president Nicola Merola described the series as a prime example of “Quebec Noir,” a distinctive strand of Canadian storytelling with international appeal.

Beta Film’s chief distribution officer, Oliver Bachert, called the drama “gripping and addictive,” praising its atmospheric winter backdrop.

The cast also includes Robert Naylor, Catherine Bérubé, and Léa Roy. Directed by Anne De Léan and written by Julie Hivon, the series was produced in collaboration with Quebecor Content / Club Illico. Its original Québécois title is Alertes: Pelletier.

More than 40 sales companies are expected to participate in the London TV Screenings, now a key fixture in the global television market calendar.
