Brad Pitt’s son Maddox drops father's surname from film credits in project with Angelina Jolie

Brad Pitt’s son Maddox has decided to remove the actor’s surname in the credits for his latest film with mom Angelina Jolie.

Maddox, who is now 24, started as a production assistant on Angelina’s highly praised 2024 Maria Callas biopic and has taken on the role of assistant director for her current project, Couture.

He is now recognised as Maddox Jolie instead of Maddox Jolie-Pitt for the first time.

In her new movie, Angelina stars as Maxine, an American director diagnosed with breast cancer, who then travels to France to begin filming a project set to premiere during Paris Fashion Week.

Brad and former partner Angelina, 48, share six children—adopting Maddox, Pax, 22, and Zahara, 21, along with their biological kids Shiloh, 19, and 17-year-old twins Knox and Vivienne.

Maddox isn’t the only child to have let go of the Pitt surname.

Shiloh followed a similar path in 2024. Legal documents were issued in the LA Times for a month before the change was legally confirmed by a judge, in accordance with California law.

Reports indicated Brad was disheartened by the name alteration.

An insider shared with People: “He knows and is saddened that Shiloh decided to drop his last name. The constant reminders of the distance between him and his children naturally weigh heavily on Brad. He deeply loves and misses them. It’s a difficult situation.”

That same year, Vivienne was credited solely under her mother’s name as a producer for the Broadway musical Playbill of The Outsiders.

During her introduction to the Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority at Spellman College in 2023, Zahara identified as ‘Zahara Marley Jolie’, even though Brad had called her college admission “truly magnificent” just months earlier.

The actor from Once Upon a Time in Hollywood saw his marriage to Angelina crumble in 2016 after a heated argument unfolded in front of their children on a private airplane. Brad allegedly had a confrontation with Maddox during the flight.

As the acrimonious divorce continued, it became clearer that the children were siding with their mother.
