Paul Simon is among Saturday Night Live’s most frequent musical guests.

Lorne Michaels’ friend has hosted the program four times and appeared as a musical guest 13 times (including as the oldest musical guest).

He made another appearance on tonight’s show to present Harry Styles’ second musical number.

Styles’ first performance was introduced by Ryan Gosling, who made a surprise visit similar to how the One Direction star made an appearance during the Project Hail Mary actor’s episode.

Simon introduced Styles before he performed Coming Up Roses, from his album Kiss All the Time. Disco, Occasionally on the piano.

The Simon & Garfunkel star last graced SNL in 2018, but also kicked off SNL50: The Anniversary Special alongside Sabrina Carpenter, where they played the 1966 hit Homeward Bound.

Styles has expressed Simon’s influence on his work. He mentioned that the One Direction song Walking In The Wind was a tribute to Graceland.

“I’m a huge Paul Simon fan and the idea behind it came from Graceland, where the verse feels so conversational, informal, almost like spoken word,” he said in 2022.

“It’s quite casual and I adore that album, and whenever I listen to it, I can hear its influence in this track. I really enjoy the song.”

In 2015, he remarked, “During a few years of my childhood, I grew up in a pub, and Simon and Garfunkel were always playing. Every time ‘Cecilia’ started, I’d think, ‘I’ve probably heard this hundreds of times today.’”

Styles wrapped up the show by expressing gratitude to both Simon and Gosling.
