Olivia Munn shares first moment she felt beautiful after breast cancer surgeries
Munn credits getting dressed up for helping her regain confidence after four surgeries
Olivia Munn revealed the first time she felt beautiful following multiple breast cancer surgeries, a moment that coincided with an unforgettable life milestone.
The Your Friends & Neighbors actress, 45, was diagnosed with bilateral breast cancer in April 2023.
Speaking exclusively to People in 10, Munn said she struggled with confidence after undergoing four rounds of surgery.
“I was not feeling like myself or feeling pretty at all, but I thought this was a great opportunity to get dressed up and see how I felt,” Munn recalled.
She decided to attend friend James Marsden’s 50th birthday party in September 2023, using the event as a chance to regain a sense of normalcy.
“I got all glammed up and did everything, and I was like, ‘Okay, I feel my best.’ And I went to his party—it was such a fun night, and I had a great time,” she said.
That night became even more memorable for Munn: it was also the evening her now-husband, comedian John Mulaney, proposed at their hotel.
“He said, ‘I knew you would want to feel really great, and I wanted to give you that moment,’” Munn explained.
“If I hadn’t gone to that party, he would have proposed eventually, but not in that moment. It was such a perfect, perfect moment.”
Munn and Mulaney, 43, married over the Fourth of July weekend in 2024 and are raising two children together, Malcolm and Méi.
Currently, Munn is reprising her role in season 2 of Apple TV’s Your Friends & Neighbors, alongside James Marsden.
She said she was thrilled to return to the series, describing her character as “so intertwined” with complex emotions.
“You know, the feeling of regret and shame, justification and indignation… how do I encompass all of those feelings at once while driving the story forward?” she said.
New episodes of Your Friends & Neighbors are streaming exclusively on Apple TV.
