Noah Wyle to testify at Adam Schiff hearing on Paramount-Warner Bros. Discovery merger
Pitt star Noah Wyle will testify at a hearing led by Sen. Adam Schiff
The Pitt actor Noah Wyle is set to provide testimony at a session headed by Sen. Adam Schiff (D-CA) on Friday.
This session will discuss the planned merger of Paramount with Warner Bros. Discovery and focus on the advocacy for a national tax incentive.
This gathering, titled “Lights, Camera, Competition”: Promoting American Film Production,” is scheduled to occur in Burbank.
It’s referred to as a “spotlight hearing,” designed to draw attention to specific topics.
Other scheduled speakers include IATSE President Matthew Loeb; Jax Deluca, the Future Film Coalition's executive director and research fellow at the Harvard Kennedy School Shorenstein Center on Media, Politics, and Public Policy; and Jim Acosta, the independent journalist and ex-host and correspondent at CNN. Additional participants may also be announced.
Schiff expressed in a statement, “There are diverse challenges confronting the entertainment workforce—from enticing tax benefits offered by foreign countries to the potential fusion of two significant Hollywood studios.
This merger warrants rigorous examination to evaluate its effects on American employment, free speech, and the future of a key national export.”
Schiff, along with Rep. Laura Friedman (D-CA), have previously sought commitments from Paramount and Netflix to maintain jobs when both companies were contenders to acquire Warner Bros.
