Kiki Shepard, the cherished host of Showtime at the Apollo, has passed away today following a severe heart attack, as reported by TMZ through her representative. She was 74.

Well-known for her role as co-host on Showtime at the Apollo from 1987 to 2002, Shepard shared the stage on this iconic variety show, set at Harlem’s famous Apollo Theatre, with personalities like Sinbad and, for seven years, Steve Harvey.

Kiki Shepard also had an acting career, featuring in shows such as A Different World, Baywatch, and NYPD Blue while still fulfilling her hosting responsibilities on Showtime.

In recent times, she made guest appearances on Everybody Hates Chris, where she portrayed herself, and on Grey’s Anatomy.

Back in 1978, she played a minor, uncredited role in The Wiz as one of the inhabitants of the Emerald City.
