Family heartbroken after Nicholas Brendon found dead at home

The entertainment world is mourning the loss of Nicholas Brendon, the American actor best known for his role as Xander Harris in the cult classic series "Buffy the Vampire Slayer".

Brendon was discovered dead at his home in Putnam County, Indiana, on Friday, 20 March 2026. He was fifty-four years old.

According to the Putnam County Coroner, Todd Zeiner, the actor was found by a longtime friend who had been staying overnight to provide care.

Zeiner reported that Brendon was "positioned as if asleep" when authorities arrived at the scene.

While the exact time of death remains under investigation, local officials indicated that the passing occurred shortly before he was discovered.

Family members have since disclosed that Brendon had been battling significant health challenges, including a congenital heart defect and a heart attack suffered in 2023.

Preliminary findings suggest the death resulted from natural causes, with the coroner stating: "There were no signs of foul play, and nothing at the scene indicated the death was anything other than natural."

An autopsy and toxicology tests are currently pending to provide further clarity.

In a poignant statement shared via Facebook, Brendon’s family expressed their profound grief: "We are heartbroken to share the passing of our brother and son, Nicholas Brendon. He passed in his sleep of natural causes."

The tribute also highlighted his recent transition into the world of fine art, noting that he had found a new passion in painting.

Having starred in all seven seasons of "Buffy", Brendon later held recurring roles in "Criminal Minds" and "Private Practice" before focusing on his artistic endeavours.
