Google is bringing out a couple of new features for Gemini, designed to win over users hesitant to switch their go-to AI chatbot due to the hassle of retraining.

These features, “Import Memory” and “Import Chat History”, enable users to effortlessly transfer all data their current AI knows about them using a few pre-composed prompts.

The “Import Memory” feature works by having users take a prompt recommended by Gemini, insert it into their prior AI platform, and then transfer the AI output back into Gemini.

This update ensures that Gemini understands their preferences. Meanwhile, the “Import Chat History” option requires users to request a complete export of their previous AI conversations, typically as a .zip file, which is then uploaded to Gemini.

Users can then seamlessly continue their discussions in Gemini right from where they left off with their old AI.

Google is rebranding Gemini’s “past chats” section to “memory.” Both “Import Memory” and “Import Chat History” are becoming available to Gemini users with free and paid accounts, although availability might not be instant across all platforms.

Currently, these new tools are not accessible to users with business, enterprise, or underage accounts.

At the start of this month, Anthropic enhanced its own method for transferring another AI’s memory into Claude, employing a similar process of copying prompts and delivering their outputs to Claude.

Additionally, on Thursday, Google broadened access to its Search Live AI function in conjunction with the introduction of its Gemini 3.1 Flash Live voice model, promoting improved natural and intuitive conversations and quicker responses.
