Rob Lowe has just signed up for the Stephen Merchant-directed romantic comedy featuring Cameron Diaz, coming from Amazon MGM Studios.

The West Wing Primetime Emmy nominee becomes part of an impressive cast that includes Jake Lacy, Josh Segarra, Sherry Cola, Judith Light, Myra Lucretia Taylor, Fabrizio Guido, Lisa Gilroy, and Dustin Ybarra.

Merchant collaborated with John Butler on the screenplay, which centers on a career-driven Brit working in a luxury hotel in New York (Merchant).

He needs a spouse for appearances, and a down-on-her-luck comedian seeking health insurance (Diaz) becomes his convenient partner.

Their sham marriage kicks off as a mere setup—but blossoms into an unexpected romance.

As revealed before, the film is produced by Lee Eisenberg, Merchant, and Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, James Weaver, and Josh Fagen of Point Grey Pictures. Natalie Sandy serves as executive producer.

Lowe has received two Emmy nominations, six Golden Globe nominations, and four Screen Actors Guild Awards, winning two.

His body of work includes St. Elmo’s Fire, About Last Night, and The Outsiders, along with Parks and Recreation. He’s also appeared in Behind the Candelabra, Austin Powers, and Tommy Boy.

His two memoirs, Stories I Only Tell My Friends and Love Life, achieved New York Times Best Seller status. Lowe adapted his first memoir into a live tour titled Stories I Only Tell My Friends: Live! Recently, Rob Lowe starred in and produced Fox’s Texas-set series 9-1-1: Lone Star and is currently behind the top-rated television game show, Fox’s The Floor.

His Netflix comedy Unstable, developed with Victor Fresco and featuring his son John Owen Lowe, was influenced by their humorous social media interactions where John Owen often pokes fun at his dad. Up next, Lowe takes the lead in Bleecker Street’s The Third Parent alongside Crispin Glover. He is represented by WME, Brillstein, and Latham & Watkins.
