In a tragic event in Brooklyn on Wednesday, a baby lost her life in what appeared to be a stray-bullet incident, according to police reports.

Authorities are actively searching for two individuals who left the scene on a moped in East Williamsburg.

"A life that had just begun was tragically cut short," stated Mayor Zohran Mamdani during a press briefing in the late afternoon. "As we mourn this loss, I appreciate the NYPD's unrelenting efforts to locate those responsible for this tragedy and to seek justice."

The infant, roughly 7 months old, was in a stroller at the intersection of Moore and Humboldt streets shortly after 1:15pm when she was shot in the head, explained Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch.

Upon hearing gunfire, the child's mother rushed into a nearby store, where she noticed her daughter was bleeding.

The father then quickly took the child to Woodhull Hospital, where tragic news awaited—the child was declared deceased, shared police sources.

"I mistook it for fireworks until something hit my leg, leaving small metal fragments," recounted a witness. "The family entered the store, and the mother started to scream. The baby seemed lifeless."

The NYPD is in pursuit of two males who were seen on a scooter. The driver was described as having dreadlocks, dressed in a light-colored hoodie. The individual riding with him was observed wearing a dark-colored hoodie.

Authorities have since obtained footage displaying the suspects riding away from 24 Humboldt St., just moments before the incident, Commissioner Tisch reported.

"As they neared the Moore Street junction, the man sitting at the back of the moped was caught on video pulling out a firearm and shooting at least twice toward the southwest corner. That area was occupied by several adults, including two strollers and nearby children," Tisch elaborated.

The fleeing individuals can be seen on video as the moped collides with a moving vehicle two blocks from the scene.

The impact ejected both from the scooter, with the passenger falling so hard that his shoes flew off, later retrieved by the police, added the commissioner.

Commissioner Tisch noted that a 911 call concerning the crash was placed roughly around 1:25pm. One man was transported to Brooklyn Hospital, believed to match the description of the shooter based on his attire and look, affirmed Tisch.

He was held for an unrelated matter while investigators are determining his connection to the shooting.

The moped in question was reportedly found left behind about five blocks from the crime scene shortly afterward, currently under examination by investigators, Confidence Tisch confirmed.
