A New York teenager is accused of attacking his grandmother's fiancé while he slept and then dialing 911 to report himself.

In Central Islip, New York, 18-year-old Noel Bermudez-Chin stood before the court after authorities reported that he had fatally stabbed 61-year-old Joseph Falvo.

The Suffolk County Police Department's statement indicated officers responded to a 911 call made at 3:42am on a Sunday, reporting a man had been repeatedly stabbed in a trailer located in East Northport, New York.

According to local newspaper Newsday, Bermudez-Chin, who is the grandson of Falvo’s fiancée, was the person who called.

During the court session covered by Newsday, prosecutors claimed Bermudez-Chin informed officers that he poured hot oil and hot water on Falvo while the older man slept on the couch. Furthermore, he allegedly admitted to having fatally stabbed Falvo.

Falvo was engaged to Noel Bermudez-Chin's grandmother, Cecilia Bermudez. Local news from News 12 Long Island detailed that they got engaged in February and were looking forward to a wedding in July.

It was also mentioned that the alleged incident occurred in a trailer situated in the yard of a house. Bermudez, Falvo, and Bermudez-Chin had been residing in the trailer since their home experienced a fire in December 2025.

As reported by News 12 Long Island, court documents disclosed that Bermudez-Chin confessed to police about stabbing Falvo "five or six times in the back followed by a stab to the stomach." No reason has been disclosed for the alleged incident.

Falvo was transported to a hospital but sadly was declared dead upon arrival.

Bermudez-Chin was found roughly a mile from the house and taken into custody. He faces charges of second-degree murder and is currently held at the Suffolk County Police Department's 3rd Precinct.

At his hearing on Monday, Bermudez-Chin was denied bail and will remain in custody until his next court appearance on April 3.
