Day care worker reports drunken incident, injures child: Police
Aniya Keosongseng faced charges of child endangerment and obstructing a peace officer
A Minnesota woman was dismissed from her position at a day care center after officers found her so intoxicated that she needed to be hospitalised.
Aniya Keosongseng, age 21, faced charges of child endangerment and obstructing a peace officer following an incident in February.
The criminal complaint reviewed by Law&Crime stated that Keosongseng worked as a day care aide at Milestones Early Learning Center in Plymouth, Minnesota, on February 23 when another staff member notified the authorities about a teacher having a "panic attack."
When authorities reached the day care facility, they reported finding Keosongseng under the influence.
According to the complaint, Keosongseng had an alcohol odor, and coworkers observed her "slurring her words" and "stumbling."
Officers examined security footage from the center, noting that her condition worsened during the afternoon.
The video depicted Keosongseng "nodding off" while attempting to dress a child. Shortly after, she lifted the child and fell backward against a wall, allegedly causing the child's head to hit the wall.
Authorities noted Keosongseng was seen trying to comfort the child. As she attempted to "shift" towards the child on the floor, she purportedly "lost her balance and fell on the child."
Upon arriving and finding Keosongseng in her seemingly intoxicated state, officers attempted to detain her. Keosongseng reportedly resisted by "pulling away and dropping herself to the floor." While on the ground, she allegedly bit an officer's leg.
The complaint mentioned that police conducted a PBT on Keosongseng, revealing her blood alcohol concentration was 0.356, exceeding the state driving limit by over four times.
Authorities stated that Keosongseng confessed to consuming alcohol during her lunch break before returning to her duties. Due to her intoxication level, they opted to take her to a hospital instead of jail.
Local ABC affiliate KSTP acquired a statement from the day care center declaring that Keosongseng was terminated immediately.
The statement also mentioned that the children in her care were "transferred to another room" so that Keosongseng could be "assisted," initially thought to be a "medical concern." They later conveyed that "alcohol was a factor."
The day care's statement confirmed that following its collaboration with investigators and discussions with the children's families, "no child suffered injury due to the staff member's actions."
