Apple’s first foldable iPhone nears launch despite earlier delay concerns
Foldable iPhone is expected to debut alongside or shortly after iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max
Apple is reportedly on track to launch its first foldable iPhone as early as September, marking a major step into the rapidly growing foldable smartphone market.
According to a report by Mark Gurman of Bloomberg, the long-rumoured device is expected to debut alongside — or shortly after — the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max models.
The timeline comes despite earlier concerns raised by Nikkei Asia that engineering challenges could delay the launch.
While the device’s complexity may limit initial production volumes, Apple is said to be moving forward with its planned release window.
However, with the expected launch still months away, the final timing has not been confirmed.
The foldable iPhone represents a significant strategic move for Apple, allowing it to compete more directly with established foldable devices from Samsung and several China-based manufacturers that have already gained traction in the segment.
Reports suggest Apple may enter the market with key advantages, including improvements in display durability and efforts to minimise the visible crease — a common drawback in current foldable designs.
The company is also believed to have made progress in enhancing overall screen quality.
If successful, the launch could reshape competition in the premium smartphone space, positioning Apple to challenge rivals while introducing its signature design approach to a category it has so far avoided.
