A duo from New York faces legal issues after their 6-week-old twin sons were admitted to the hospital with critical injuries.

Camron Douglas, age 32, and Brittany Spicer, age 34, were taken into custody on April 2 by the Wayne County Sheriff's Office after medical personnel attended to their 6-week-old twin sons at Newark-Wayne Community Hospital in Newark, New York.

Spicer received two charges of child endangerment as misdemeanors and was freed from Wayne County Jail. Douglas faced two felony assault charges and remains behind bars.

Based on court documents collected by the local ABC affiliate WHAM, Douglas and Spicer brought one of their babies to the hospital on March 15.

After medical professionals found the child had life-threatening injuries, Child Protective Services was requested to have his twin sibling examined at the hospital as well. This child was also found to have serious injuries.

Authorities stated the injuries occurred due to actions by the children's father, Douglas, in February and March.

Both infants suffered from brain bleeds, fractures, and severe burns, which police identified as "non-accidental." The twin Spicer brought in showed burns on his face and stomach area.

Court records outline that Spicer was aware of the injuries yet did not seek immediate care for the infants.

On the morning of March 15, one child exhibited seizure-like signs but wasn't brought to the hospital by Spicer until 5 p.m.

Both Spicer and Douglas pleaded not guilty to the allegations against them. Spicer was released from jail on April 2 and attended a court session on Wednesday. Her subsequent court appearance is set for May 13.

Douglas, who is on parole after previous convictions for attempted burglary and assault, will have his case reviewed by a grand jury. His upcoming court date has not been disclosed.

The twins remain under medical care and will be placed in foster care when they recover.

Spicer's 3-year-old child was also removed from her care, and she has been ordered to avoid contact with the twins.
