Microsoft removes Copilot buttons from Windows 11 apps
Microsoft is eliminating 'unnecessary' Copilot buttons from Windows 11 apps for better functionality
Microsoft is beginning to eliminate “unnecessary” Copilot buttons from its Windows 11 applications.
In the updated Notepad app for Windows Insiders, Microsoft has substituted the Copilot button with a “writing tools” menu.
The Copilot button no longer appears in the Snipping Tool app when selecting an area to capture.
The change is part of “removing unneeded Copilot entry points, starting with apps such as Snipping Tool, Photos, Widgets, and Notepad,” that Microsoft pledged to finish in its broader initiative to improve Windows 11.
While Copilot buttons are being stripped away, it seems the underlying AI features will still be available.
The Copilot button has been taken out from Notepad, yet the new writing tools feature still incorporates AI elements and resembles the options menu that was previously there.
Users may find these features mostly unnecessary for a tool meant to be a simple text app, but you’ll likely see removing the redundant Copilot label as a welcome change.
