Daniel Neeleman has reflected on how his wife and business partner, Hannah Neeleman, reshaped his understanding of traditional family roles, saying their partnership challenged expectations he grew up with.

In a recent Q&A with GQ, published April 7, the co-founder of the viral lifestyle brand Ballerina Farm spoke about his upbringing in a large family, where his father worked outside the home while his mother stayed home to care for the children.

Neeleman said that dynamic initially shaped his belief that household responsibilities followed a traditional split, but that perspective changed after meeting Hannah.

He explained that both he and his wife come from entrepreneurial families, but he originally assumed he would be the primary earner while she managed the home.

According to him, Hannah rejected that idea early on in their relationship, instead pushing for a fully shared approach to both work and parenting.

“When she said, ‘No, we’re going to work together,’ my mind had this epiphany moment,” he said, adding that the couple now operates as equal partners in both business and family life.

Neeleman emphasized that the pair “split everything” at home, including cleaning, laundry, diapers, and meals, describing their household as fully collaborative rather than divided by traditional roles.

The couple, who announced the birth of their ninth child a daughter, on March 5, said the new addition has been a “surreal” milestone for the family. As of early April, they have not yet revealed the baby’s name.

Neeleman also noted that while nine children feels like a meaningful number, he and Hannah are not ruling out expanding their family further in the future.
