Maya Hawke returns to TV after 'Stranger Things' in dark new Netflix drama
The series marks her first major role since the Netflix hit ended
Maya Hawke has landed her next major television role following the conclusion of Stranger Things, joining a new Netflix drama that promises a dark and atmospheric mystery.
The 27-year-old actress, best known for playing Robin Buckley in the hit series, has been cast in The God of the Woods, an adaptation of Liz Moore’s bestselling 2024 novel.
Hawke will portray Judy Luptack, a trailblazing investigator in the Bureau of Criminal Investigation who becomes involved in a disturbing missing-person case at a remote summer camp.
The series centers on the disappearance of a 13-year-old girl from the Van Laar family’s camp in the Adirondacks, unfolding against a backdrop of long-buried secrets, class tension, and a prior family tragedy that may be connected to the case.
Kerry Condon will star alongside Hawke as Alice Van Laar, the missing girl’s mother.
The adaptation is being developed with Liz Moore and Liz Hannah serving as co-showrunners, writers, and executive producers.
In a joint statement, the creative team said they are excited to bring the story to screen and hope audiences connect deeply with its complex characters.
Netflix has not yet announced a release date but confirmed that further details will be shared in the future.
The streamer described the project as a multigenerational drama exploring privilege, power, and the unraveling of a wealthy family’s influence as the investigation exposes hidden truths.
Hawke’s casting marks her first major television role since Stranger Things concluded on December 31, 2025, after she appeared prominently in its later seasons from Season 3 onward.
Beyond television, Hawke is also set to appear in several upcoming films, including Wishful Thinking, One Night Only, and The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping.
