New survey reveals AI has taken over tasks for over a quarter of employees
Microsoft Copilot surpasses rivals ChatGPT and Google Gemini in the professional sector
Artificial intelligence is rapidly integrating into the global workforce, with more than a quarter of employees reporting that the technology has already assumed portions of their professional duties.
According to a new survey conducted by Ipsos in collaboration with Epoch AI, released on Friday, 27% of workers confirmed that AI tools now manage routine tasks such as document summarisation and information organisation.
The findings highlight a significant shift in daily operations, noting that 48% of American adults reported using AI tools within the previous week alone.
The survey suggests that while AI is automating certain functions, it is also expanding employee capabilities.
Approximately 21% of respondents indicated that the technology has enabled them to undertake new responsibilities, including complex data analysis that previously required specialised coding skills.
However, the transition remains gradual for the majority; nearly 68% of participants stated that AI has not yet taken over any of their core duties.
Access is a primary driver of this trend, with workplace usage jumping to 76% among employees who receive professional subscriptions from their employers, compared to lower rates for those on free tiers.
Currently, Microsoft Copilot is the most widely utilised tool among professionals, followed by ChatGPT and Google Gemini.
This widespread adoption comes as policymakers struggle to establish a cohesive regulatory framework. While several U.S. states have enacted individual privacy and consumer protection laws, federal authorities are calling for a unified national system to prevent a fragmented regulatory landscape.
This has sparked legal tension, with companies like Elon Musk’s xAI filing challenges against state-level rules, arguing that a patchwork of regulations could stifle international technological progress and innovation.
