Husband arrested after Lynette Hooker goes missing during Bahamas boat trip
Lynette Hooker reportedly fell overboard while traveling with her husband, who denies wrongdoing
A Michigan woman remains missing after reportedly falling overboard during a boat trip in the Bahamas, as authorities have arrested her husband days after the incident, raising new questions about what happened at sea.
Lynette Hooker was reported missing on April 5 after a trip with her husband, Brian Hooker, near Hope Town in the Bahamas.
According to Brian’s initial account to police, the couple had been traveling in a small dinghy when Lynette allegedly fell into the water amid rough conditions.
Authorities say Brian reported that strong currents and dark, windy weather contributed to the situation, claiming he lost sight of his wife after she went overboard.
He later said the boat became inoperable and drifted before he made his way to Marsh Harbour, where he alerted police.
Days later, Brian Hooker was arrested on April 8 by the Royal Bahamas Police Force in connection with his wife’s disappearance, according to his attorney. He has not been formally charged and denies any wrongdoing.
His lawyer, Terrel A. Butler, said Hooker has been cooperating with investigators and “categorically and unequivocally denies any wrongdoing,” adding that he maintains his innocence.
The circumstances surrounding Lynette Hooker’s disappearance remain unclear. Officials had initially stated that foul play was not suspected in the early stages of the investigation, though authorities have since taken the husband into custody as inquiries continue.
Lynette’s daughter, Karli Aylesworth, has publicly raised concerns about the case, pointing to what she described as “prior issues” in the couple’s relationship.
She alleged there had been past incidents of violence, including threats made against her mother, though she emphasized that the full circumstances remain uncertain.
“If this truly was an accident, I can understand and live with it,” Aylesworth said. “However, there needs to be an intensive review of the facts.”
She also questioned elements of Brian Hooker’s account, including how her mother may have ended up in the water and inconsistencies in the sequence of events.
Authorities have not publicly detailed the basis for Brian Hooker’s arrest, and he has not been charged with a crime.
Investigators continue to examine the timeline and circumstances surrounding Lynette Hooker’s disappearance.
The case remains under active investigation by Bahamian authorities.
