Microsoft has confirmed that it will officially shut down its Outlook Lite app for Android users within the next six weeks.

The final "death date" for the application has been set for 25 May, at which point the app will lose all mailbox access.

According to reports from Neowin, Microsoft is shifting its strategic focus toward its primary, "feature-rich" Outlook Mobile platform.

While the Lite version was originally designed for lower-powered devices and regions with limited connectivity, the company has determined that the main app is now the preferred solution for all users.

Although the Outlook Lite app may still be able to open on devices after the deadline, its core functionality will be entirely disabled.

Internal reports indicate that in-app navigation and mailbox syncing will no longer work, effectively rendering the software obsolete.

This move follows a gradual phase-out that began on 6 October 2025, during which Microsoft allowed existing users to continue using the service for a limited transitional period.

The tech giant is now actively encouraging its user base to transition to the standard Outlook Mobile app, which is available on both Android and iOS.

Microsoft has offered reassurances to those concerned about their data, stating that "all existing email, calendar items, and attachments will remain accessible" once users sign in to the primary application.

This consolidation of services marks the end of Microsoft's experiment with a stripped-down mobile email client, as the company prioritises a unified experience across its mobile ecosystem.
