Alec Baldwin has candidly discussed his desire to retire from acting, revealing the deep emotional scars left by the Rust tragedy.
During a recent appearance on The Hollywood Reporter's Awards Chatter podcast, the actor described the 2021 incident—in which a revolver he was holding discharged, killing cinematographer Halyna Hutchins—as "unspeakably difficult."
Though criminal charges against him were eventually dismissed due to the prosecution's withholding of evidence, the 68-year-old actor admitted he has struggled to move past the event.
Baldwin explained that the fallout from the shooting led to a three-and-a-half-year period where he "hardly worked at all."
During this time, he became accustomed to life at home with his seven children. "I was home, and I got used to it, and I don't want to leave my house anymore," the Beetlejuice star shared.
"I don't want to work anymore. I want to retire and stay home with my kids." While he noted that his work schedule is only just beginning to change, the sentiment of wanting a permanent exit from the industry was clear.
Currently, Baldwin has not signed on to any new film or television projects, further fueling speculation that his retirement may be imminent.
He noted that while he might complete a few remaining obligations, his primary focus has shifted entirely to his family.
The actor’s reflection highlights a significant shift in his priorities as he navigates the lingering consequences of the most challenging period of his career.
Whether this marks the official end of his decades-long run in Hollywood remains to be seen, but for now, Baldwin seems content in his role as a stay-at-home father.
