A Wisconsin child reportedly lost his life after his brother or sister discovered a firearm in family vehicle
A Wisconsin child reportedly lost his life after his brother or sister discovered a firearm in the family vehicle.
According to a social media post by the Fond du Lac County Sheriff's Office, law enforcement responded to a report on the morning of April 10 regarding an incident involving a small child.
Upon arrival, responders discovered a 2-year-old boy with gunshot injuries and called for air medical services.
Tragically, despite efforts to save him, the boy was declared deceased before reaching medical care.
Authorities reported that three young children, including the two-year-old boy, were in a car situated in the home's driveway.
As one parent briefly went inside to gather something, their four-year-old reportedly discovered a loaded firearm in the vehicle's console.
While the police did not officially identify the shooting victim, a GoFundMe campaign initiated by a Fond du Lac family revealed that a two-year-old boy named Crewe Zahradnik had died on the same day.
In this post, a relative referred to his death as a "devastating accident" and an "unthinkable tragedy." The family is seeking funds for funeral costs, grief support, and lost income.
The sheriff's office reported that the boy died when the weapon "went off." Authorities mentioned that although the inquiry into the shooting was active, no malicious intent was suspected, and the family was working with investigators.
Officers indicated that legal charges might be considered once the investigation concludes.
