Green Bay Packers star Josh Jacobs released amid ongoing investigation
Jacobs was arrested following an alleged incident reported on May 23
Green Bay Packers running back Josh Jacobs has been released from jail following his arrest in connection with an alleged domestic violence incident, as authorities continue to investigate the case and no formal charges have yet been filed.
The 28-year-old NFL player was taken into custody on Tuesday, May 26, following an alleged incident that reportedly occurred on Saturday, May 23.
He had been held without bond on multiple charges, including felony strangulation and suffocation, as well as misdemeanor counts of battery, disorderly conduct, criminal damage to property and intimidation of a victim, according to Brown County Jail records.
However, on Wednesday, May 27, the Brown County District Attorney’s Office confirmed that prosecutors were not yet prepared to move forward with charges, citing the need for additional investigation.
“After reviewing the available evidence in this case, the Brown County District Attorney’s Office is not yet prepared to make a formal charging decision,” District Attorney David L. Lasee said in a statement, adding that investigators believe further evidence may still be uncovered.
Authorities said the investigation remains ongoing, and a final decision on potential charges will be made at a later stage.
Jacobs’ attorneys welcomed his release, stating they were “extremely pleased” that he had been freed and that no charges have been formally filed at this time.
“As we previously stated, we encourage everyone to keep an open mind while the matter is fully reviewed,” his legal team said.
“We remain confident that, once all of the evidence is gathered and evaluated, it will confirm that no charges should be brought against Josh in the future.”
Police said they were first alerted to a disturbance involving Jacobs at approximately 8:37 a.m. local time on May 23 in Hobart-Lawrence, Wisconsin.
Officials have not released further details, noting that the case remains open.
The NFL has acknowledged the situation, saying it is aware of the matter as it continues to unfold.
Jacobs, who is entering his third season with the Packers, was drafted in the first round by the then-Oakland Raiders in 2019 before joining Green Bay in 2024. He previously played college football at Alabama and recorded 929 rushing yards and 13 touchdowns last season.
