WhatsApp develops real-time security alerts for linked devices
WhatsApp is currently testing a system to monitor secondary devices in real time
WhatsApp is reportedly developing a sophisticated new security layer for Android users, designed to offer unprecedented control over account privacy and device monitoring.
This feature, currently in the development phase, aims to provide real-time visibility into linked devices.
Unlike the existing system, which requires individuals to manually navigate the "Linked Devices" menu to check for active sessions, this update will introduce an automated alert system.
The primary function is to notify users immediately if a secondary linked device is being accessed at the same time as their main smartphone.
This specific trigger is designed to help users identify suspicious activity instantly. For example, if an individual receives an alert while actively using their phone, it could indicate that a forgotten session on a shared or public computer is being accessed by someone else.
To maintain a smooth user experience and avoid "notification fatigue," WhatsApp has engineered the system to be non-intrusive.
Alerts will only be triggered when both the primary and a linked device are active simultaneously, rather than whenever a secondary device is used independently.
Users will maintain full autonomy over this feature, with the option to enable or disable these specific alerts through the "Advanced Privacy Settings" menu.
While the tool is not yet available for public beta testing, it represents a major advancement in securing accounts as the platform continues to expand its multi-device capabilities.
This initiative follows WhatsApp's recent introduction of "Chat Lock" and "Secret Codes" earlier in 2025. This project remains a key focus for the developers throughout the 2026 update cycle.
