Dad executes ex-girlfriend in front of 5-year-old son: Police report

A 27-year-old man in Oklahoma is facing accusations of murdering his ex-girlfriend, allegedly firing at her from behind while she was holding their 5-year-old son during a heated early morning dispute on Easter, before escaping to another state.

Connor Allen Kinnamon was arrested in Kansas with a charge of first-degree murder for the death of 27-year-old Audrey Adams, as revealed by court documents.

Before the incident, officials noted that the pair "were engaged in a verbal confrontation that escalated into a minor physical altercation," reported Cushing, Oklahoma, AM radio station KUSH 1080, as cited in a probable cause document.

At some stage during this exchange, Kinnamon's mother stepped in to separate them.

The altercation reportedly grew worse after Adams called her mother to fetch her, which "provoked Connor," according to police comments.

At the moment of the shooting, several family members were within the house.

"Connor stood just inside the dining room facing the entryway. Audrey held [their son] in her arms," the affidavit reportedly mentioned.

"[The victim's mother] told Audrey to accompany her when Connor said something about shooting himself. Connor then drew a gun and shot Audrey, who immediately fell to the living room floor."

Emergency responders arrived shortly after, attempting lifesaving interventions, but Adams was declared deceased at 2:47am.

Soon after the shooting, officers stated that Kinnamon fled the location via the back entrance, took his mother's Buick Regal, and drove away.

In efforts to detain Kinnamon without release, prosecutors documented that he shot Adams "at the back of her head" and later admitted to the murder.

The family acted swiftly, with Adams' mother securing the couple's child while Kinnamon's mother contacted 911, informing the dispatcher her son had escaped in her car, reported Oklahoma City CBS affiliate KWTV.

Investigators traced Kinnamon over state lines by monitoring his cellphone, managing to communicate with him and persuade him to halt the vehicle.

"Multiple signals showed Connor heading north toward the Kansas border, eventually passing into Kansas," the affidavit stated, noting that a deputy contacted Kinnamon by phone and negotiated his surrender as the authorities organized his capture.

A firearm thought to be involved in the crime was subsequently retrieved.

"The Sumner County Sheriff's Office took possession of the Buick Regal and found the suspected gun used during the shooting inside the vehicle," reported the affidavit. A single spent 9 mm shell casing was also located within the house.

The couple's child was unharmed physically during the incident, according to police.

Authorities also highlighted that in a discussion with investigators, Kinnamon admitted he and Adams had used methamphetamine prior to the shooting, though the results of toxicology tests are pending.

Kinnamon is detained in the Payne County Jail without the possibility of release, according to court documents. His next court appearance is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on May 4.
