Tyler Vidro arrested following death of FedEx driver Nathaniel Padgett
Tyler Vidro allegedly claimed he feared for his life before shooting Nathaniel Padgett
A Florida man has been charged with premeditated murder and stalking after allegedly shooting a FedEx driver following a road rage dispute.
Tyler Vidro was arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of Nathaniel Padgett, which occurred on April 16 in Riviera Beach.
According to an arrest affidavit, the confrontation began on the road and escalated when Vidro allegedly followed Mr Padgett to a restricted FedEx hub.
Police reports indicate that Mr Padgett’s girlfriend, who was a passenger in the delivery truck, witnessed Vidro shrugging his shoulders and raising his hands in an attempt to provoke her partner before following them to the facility.
Surveillance audio captured Vidro claiming that Mr Padgett had struck his vehicle, though police noted that the victim made a "clear attempt to disengage and leave the scene."
After being pursued to a different area of the facility, Mr Padgett reportedly retrieved a concrete block from the ground.
However, investigators stated there was no evidence to suggest he held the block in a threatening manner.
Vidro allegedly told police he used his firearm because he "feared for his life," later remarking, "I didn't think to call you guys, but the lawyer told me to."
The victim was taken to hospital with multiple gunshot wounds but was later pronounced dead.
Officers alleged that Vidro deliberately waited for the driver to exit the building and initiated the confrontation without authorisation on private property.
A GoFundMe page has since raised over $7,000 to assist the family of Nathaniel Padgett with funeral expenses.
