President Donald Trump lauded Tim Cook in an elaborate Truth Social post on Tuesday, praising the departing Apple CEO as an "extraordinary person" and recounting how Cook reached out for assistance.

"For me, it all started with a call from Tim at the onset of my First Term," Trump wrote. "He faced a significant issue only I, as President, could address."

Trump elaborated, "Receiving the call, I thought, wow, it's Tim Apple (Cook!) on the line, how incredible is that? I felt quite pleased with myself having the head of Apple reaching out to 'praise me.'"

Apple's representatives did not promptly reply to an inquiry regarding Trump's Truth Social remarks.

The post highlights the nature of relationship dynamics in the White House during Trump's tenure.

Business leaders have occasionally demonstrated a readiness to cater to the president to further their goals.

Daniel Weiner, who heads the Elections and Government Program at the Brennan Center for Justice, noted Trump's post provides insight into his "openly transactional and personally driven approach to leadership."

"It's this notion that influential corporate CEOs should just call him up, offer tribute, and receive favors in return," Weiner observed. "This might have been how governance unfolded at periods in our history, but it certainly was not the ideal. Now, it's somewhat being celebrated as the norm."

Cook, who is resigning after nearly 15 years at the helm, excelled in navigating the administration. During Trump's terms, he directly lobbied the president regarding tax, tariff, and various issues affecting Apple.

These efforts often paid off. Last year, Cook secured tariff exemptions critical to Apple's operations. Trump acknowledged aiding Tim Cook with this effort, though the White House claimed no specific corporate benefits were granted.

"Throughout my presidency, Tim would occasionally call, and I'd assist when possible," Trump commented on Tuesday. "Years later, after a few significant favors, I'd tell anyone willing to listen how outstanding a manager and leader he is."

Cook sometimes extended his engagement beyond phone calls. In August, he gifted Trump a gold and glass statue inscribed with "Made in USA" as Apple announced an additional $100 billion for US manufacturing.

John Ternus, currently a senior hardware engineering VP, will take over on September 1, and Cook will step into the role of executive chairman.
