Russell Brand has made a striking public admission about his past sexual conduct, as he continues to face serious legal proceedings in the United Kingdom.

Speaking on The Megyn Kelly Show, the 50-year-old comedian acknowledged that he once had a sexual encounter with a 16-year-old girl when he was 30, adding that while the age of consent in the U.K. is 16, he now views the situation differently in hindsight.

Brand said the relationship occurred in 2006 and stated it was not illegal under British law.

However, he went on to describe his past behaviour as irresponsible, saying he believes there were “strong power differentials” involved due to his public profile at the time.

“Consensual sex, actually, with a variety of people when there is a strong power differential… I think it is exploitative,” he said, adding that he now recognises his past actions as “selfish” and lacking consideration for others.

The comments come as Brand faces multiple serious allegations in the U.K.

He was charged in April 2025 with rape and sexual assault in relation to accusations from four women concerning incidents reported between 1999 and 2005, according to court records and reporting.

In December 2025, additional allegations were also made by two other women. Brand has denied all charges and pleaded not guilty.

His trial is scheduled to begin in October at Southwark Crown Court in London, where the case will be formally heard.

The actor and comedian, once a major figure in British entertainment, has largely stepped back from mainstream media in recent years while continuing to make appearances on independent platforms and interviews.
