Nicole Kidman hospitalised after filming pro-wrestling TV scene
The Oscar-winning star was determined not to let the flu hinder the series
Nicole Kidman filmed a pro-wrestling scene in “Margo’s Got Money Troubles” despite having the flu and was immediately taken to the hospital afterward.
“We gather in the morning, gearing up—some of us are doing actual wrestling, so we have stunt doubles and partners,” Kidman’s co-actor, Nick Offerman, mentioned to People about the April 22 episode of the popular comedy.
In this show, Kidman portrays a wrestler named Lace facing Offerman’s larger-than-life wrestling persona, Jinx, and they have a chance to wrestle at a convention.
“Then, we hear Nicole’s down with the flu, and maybe she won't make it,” Offerman shared. “And we’re all like, ‘What a shame, because we’ve only got this one day organised for this event.'”
The Oscar-winning star was determined not to let the flu hinder the series, where she also serves as an executive producer.
“Around 8:00am, we got this update,” Offerman remarked. “Then by 11:00 a.m., we receive word: Nicole’s on her way.”
The “Big Little Lies” actress was “very ill,” Offerman noted — but she showed up to work regardless.
“She appeared so frail and shaky,” the “Parks and Recreation” veteran recalled. “The flu hit her pretty hard.”
Nonetheless, Kidman “came through and ensured that we captured every necessary moment of her, embodying a superhero spirit, achieving everything needed so that her role didn’t miss a beat.”
Following the demanding scene, Kidman “was immediately transported to the hospital for IV treatment.”
“I told her, I already admired you immensely, but this demonstrates why you’re Nicole Kidman; you ensured the show retained every bit of your contribution,” Offerman praised.
“It was truly generous. Quite remarkable.” Meanwhile, Kidman admitted she was “really apprehensive about potential injuries."
“Once in the ring, I thought, ‘Alright, let’s do this,’” she told People earlier this month. “Whenever I take on something, I heed, ‘Must be cautious,’ but then I end up disregarding any safety, going all out.”
Kidman once gave a glimpse into her impressive work ethic. “I stem from an industry that was small and struggled to persist—the Australian movie scene,” she shared with the New York Times in 2020.
“My perspective was always to seize work opportunities. There was no room for choosiness since earning a living is essential. I didn’t hail from wealth. It was consistently about maintaining my career.”
Kidman and Offerman aren't the only high-profile names in “Margo’s Got Money Troubles.”
This celebrated series also stars Elle Fanning as Margo, a hopeful writer dealing with pregnancy and financial challenges, alongside Michelle Pfeiffer, Greg Kinnear, and Marcia Gay Harden, among others.
The AppleTV+ show was brought to life by David E. Kelley, inspired by Rufi Thorpe’s novel of the same title.
