Tech billionaire Elon Musk publicly reacted after a shooting incident triggered panic at the 2026 White House Correspondents’ Dinner in Washington, D.C., where Donald Trump, Melania Trump, Vice President JD Vance and several Cabinet officials were rushed to safety.

Authorities said a gunman armed with a shotgun attempted to breach security at the Washington Hilton, firing at least one shot and striking a Secret Service agent in a bullet-resistant vest before being taken into custody.

The chaos erupted shortly after Trump took the stage at approximately 8:30pm, sending hundreds of journalists and guests diving beneath tables as armed officers stormed the ballroom.

Witnesses described screaming, confusion and a rapid lockdown as Secret Service agents surrounded the president and escorted key officials from the venue.

The annual dinner was later cancelled as law enforcement declared portions of the hotel an active crime scene.

In the aftermath, Musk reshared an official White House post on X carrying Trump’s appeal for calm.

“Considering tonight’s events, I urge all Americans to find ways to resolve our disagreements amicably,” Trump’s statement read.

Musk did not add a lengthy personal caption, but his repost was widely viewed as a gesture of support toward the president during another high-profile security scare.

The response is notable given Musk’s complicated but largely civil relationship with Trump in recent months.

Musk became one of Trump’s most vocal allies after the 2024 assassination attempt in Butler, Pennsylvania, though the two later exchanged criticism during political disagreements in 2025.

Trump later praised Secret Service and law enforcement for their swift intervention, confirming that all federal protectees, including the first lady and Cabinet members, were unharmed.

Investigators say the suspect is in custody and the motive remains under investigation.
