Meryl Streep’s intense method acting left Emily Blunt awestruck on 'Devil Wears Prada' set
Streep fully immersed herself in Miranda Priestly’s 'zone,' Blunt recalls
Emily Blunt has revisited her experience working with Meryl Streep on The Devil Wears Prada, revealing that the Oscar-winning actress’s intense approach to her role as Miranda Priestly left the cast both impressed and slightly intimidated.
Appearing on SiriusXM’s Front Row with Andy Cohen, Blunt reflected on what it was like filming alongside Streep, who fully immersed herself in the character of the icy Runway editor.
“I mean, on the first one, I was quite scared because I feel like you were in a zone,” Blunt, 42, said, addressing Streep during the interview.
Streep, 75, who also joined the conversation, confirmed her commitment to the role, replying simply, “Oh, yeah. I was in that zone.”
Blunt went on to describe that immersion more vividly, joking that it wasn’t just a “zone,” but a full “Miranda zone,” referencing Streep’s iconic fashion magazine boss.
“She was in a Miranda zone,” Blunt said. “Not impenetrable, but we could come up and tell you a funny story, but you wouldn't do your extraordinary laugh that I normally hear.”
Despite the intimidating presence, Blunt made clear that Streep’s performance elevated the entire set dynamic, even if it took some adjustment for the cast.
When asked whether her method approach was difficult, Streep downplayed the idea.
“No,” she said. “The first three days I went and hung around the camera with the director… it was just like a remove. A slight remove. The authority, the thing.”
The original 2006 film The Devil Wears Prada has remained a pop culture staple, and anticipation is building for its sequel, which is set to hit cinemas on May 1.
