Princess Anne shares heartfelt tribute to Sir David Attenborough ahead of 100th birthday
Sir David turns 100 on May 8, with nationwide celebrations already underway
Princess Anne has delivered a heartfelt message in honour of Sir David Attenborough as the beloved wildlife presenter prepares to celebrate his 100th birthday on May 8.
Sir David’s centenary is being widely marked across Britain, with the BBC planning special programming and tributes to recognise his seven-decade contribution to television and environmental awareness.
Speaking in a tribute film released by the Whitley Fund for Nature, Anne praised Attenborough’s extraordinary influence on conservationists around the world.
“He has made such an impact,” the Princess Royal said, adding that his experience and dedication inspired many people to believe that meaningful change is possible.
Anne, who has served as patron of the charity since 1999, noted that many of its award winners likely drew motivation from Sir David’s long-standing commitment to protecting wildlife.
Attenborough himself supported the organisation for more than two decades as a trustee and ambassador.
The royal also shares a long history with the veteran broadcaster. Their first meeting dates back to 1958, when a young Anne and her brother, now King Charles III, visited the BBC studios during one of Attenborough’s early television appearances.
The tribute concluded with Edward Whitley thanking Sir David on behalf of conservationists and “all creatures great and small” whose survival his work has helped champion.
