Meryl Streep opens up about on-set tension with Goldie Hawn
Both actresses star in the 1992 comedy horror film 'Death Becomes Her'
Hollywood legend Meryl Streep has shared a candid look back at her working relationship with longtime co-star Goldie Hawn, revealing a lighthearted “beef” between the two during the filming of Death Becomes Her.
In a recent interview with Vanity Fair, Streep recalled that Hawn’s frequent lateness on set occasionally tested her patience.
Known for her punctuality, Streep admitted the contrast in their working styles led to some friction at the time.
“Goldie was always late to set,” Streep said, adding with humor that she herself is “always on time and annoying.”
She went on to describe Hawn arriving in a red convertible, often apologizing in a way that charmed the entire crew.
Despite the delays, Streep emphasized that the tension was never serious. “So I had a beef with her,” she joked, before quickly clarifying that her admiration for Hawn has always outweighed any minor frustrations.
The Oscar-winning actress described Hawn as a close friend, noting that the two have shared many laughs over the years while reflecting on the cult classic.
She even compared the film’s satirical take on vanity and fame to a “documentary on Beverly Hills.”
Streep also praised Hawn’s infectious energy on set, recalling how her co-star’s laughter often brought filming to a halt.
“She’s the best laugher in America,” Streep said, highlighting the joy Hawn brought to their scenes together.
Released in 1992, Death Becomes Her follows two rivals, played by Streep and Hawn, whose obsession with youth leads them to drink a mysterious potion granting immortality with chaotic and comedic consequences. The film also stars Bruce Willis.
